1 Albert Studios
20 Albert Street
NW1
21 November 1979
Dear Pepi,
I envy this beggar on the street because he is not me, doesn’t have my responsibilities, my worries, no frustrated inspiration, all the time in the world, and is not hounded by the [illegible].
So little time, so little hope and so many plans, despite everything. The month of February is the nadir, even without additional horrors, even without ghastly memories and prospects. The worst thing is the panicked fear of losing my work or possibly the studio (which amounts to the same thing) to any conceivable misfortune. When one doesn’t own one’s own studio
