The Pier Arts Centre in Orkney is renovating its buildings and Tate St Ives is showing some of the finest works from its superb collection for a year, until May 2004.
The collection contains particularly fine examples of work by St Ives artists and was formed by Margaret Gardiner, who was a close friend and supporter of many of these artists. Paintings and sculpture by Alfred Wallis, Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson, Naum Gabo, Peter Lanyon, Terry Frost, Patrick Heron, Roger Hilton, Margaret Mellis and William Scott are on show. Tate St Ives is the first venue to be showing this collection during the closure of the Pier Arts Centre.
