This discussion addresses Richard Hamilton’s entire career: his exhibition designs of the 1950s, his ‘pop’ period, his interests in design and politics, as well as his relationship to artists as diverse as Fra Angelico, Marcel Duchamp and Dieter Roth.
Featuring Mark Godfrey, curator of the Richard Hamilton exhibition at É«¿Ø´«Ã½, Vicente Todoli, former director of É«¿Ø´«Ã½ who worked with Hamilton several times and initiated the exhibition, and Hal Foster, who has published several articles on Hamilton and whose book The First Pop Age includes extensive discussion of his work.
The speakers will address works as diverse as Hamilton's design for The Beatles' White Album, his paintings based on Andrex adverts, and his critical portraits of Tony Blair and Margaret Thatcher.
