Since the mid-1980s, Andrea Fraser has investigated many aspects of the field of art, often focusing on social, institutional and economic structures and relationships through performance and film. Her work often seeks to expose the structural biases, social prejudices and economic underpinnings of cultural institutions. Fraser’s conceptually rigorous practice has been consistently innovative and exploratory and has been followed by °Õ²¹³Ù±ð’s curators with interest for many years.

To coincide with the recent installation of her work Projection 2008, Andrea Fraser joins us for a conversation about her multi-disciplinary practice with the director of É«¿Ø´«Ã½, Chris Dercon. With Projection, Fraser develops upon her past investigations of artistic ambivalence as well as affective experiences in art contexts and the exploration of public and private boundaries.

Andrea Fraser is an artist and Professor of New Genres, UCLA Department of Art. Her work has been identified with performance, video, project-based art, context art, and institutional critique. Major projects include installations for the Berkeley Art Museum; the Kunstverein Munich; the Venice Biennale (Austrian Pavilion); the Whitney Biennial; and É«¿Ø´«Ã½. She has also created performances for the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; the Philadelphia Museum of Art; and the MICA Foundation, New York. She has performed solo work at the Whitechapel, London; the Dia Art Foundation, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, Vienna; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Centre Pompidou, Paris; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, among other venues.
