How do we construct views of a place? How does the view of the tourist differ from that of a resident?
Using the work of writersÌý²¹²Ô»å philosophers including Paulo Coelho, this dynamic workshop led by the artist Emma Smith uses Tate Britain’s collection displays, including the work of J.M.W TurnerÌý²¹²Ô»å William Blake, as a landscape in which to test how walking changes our views – both opinionsÌý²¹²Ô»å perspectives. Â
Smith’s ongoing project, School for Tourists, celebrates walking as ameans of being in and connecting to place: as an act of agencyÌý²¹²Ô»å belonging. Â
Includes food for walking.
- A talk led by Emma Smith entitled Walking and Belonging: Place, space and imagination follows this workshop.
