Presented by the artists and writers, including John Cayley, Penny Florence and Loss Pequeño Glazier, new works in digital writing will be projected on the walls alongside a selection of the Turners in the Clore Galleries. The writings bring elements of Mallarmé’s evocative poetry to bear on Turner’s painting, including the use of light and the articulation of space. Readings and performances will be followed by a Q&A session, chaired by Professor Timothy Mathews, and private view of °Õ²¹³Ù±ð’s Turner Collection with the digital poetry projections. E-poetry is language-based art that requires digital media and/or programming in its composition or consumption. It changes how we can ‘read’ poetry, including taking words off the page or screen, and moving them around to create an environment of language and art.

This event is a collaboration between Tate and E-Poetry 2013 Kingston-London Festival at Kingston University, and follows the e and eye series at É«¿Ø´«Ã½, when digital poetry was juxtaposed with Modernist paintings. It is generously supported by the Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange, and led by Penny Florence and John Cayley, with Erwin van Wanrooij and Timothy Mathews.

Penny Florence is Professor Emerita at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, where she was until 2010 Head of Research Programmes. Her research and practice focus on fine art and digital writing; John Cayley is an eminent practitioner of writing in digital media and Professor of Literary Arts at Brown University; Erwin van Wannrooj  is a Graphic Designer with an international practice; Timothy Mathews  is Professor of French and Comparative Criticism at UCL, and he writes extensively on translations between the literary and visual art. Dr Loss Pequeño Glazier is Director of the e-poetry center at SUNY Buffalo, and Director, E-Poetry 2013 Kingston-London Festival.
