The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation was established in 1937 by the University of the State of New York and the donor was Mr. Solomon R. Guggenheim.
Since that date the Foundation has, amongst its other educational activities in the field of art, built up a notable collection of modern art from which these paintings have been chosen by the Director of the Museum.
Several painters are represented not merely by one example, but by an impressive group of their work, notably Chagall, Kandinsky, Delaunay, Picasso and ³¢Ã©²µ±ð°ù.
