Developing Access Programmes in a Museum or Gallery

15 March 2013 at 10.00–20.00
Learning event participants with Henry Moore sculpture

This is a one day professional development event for museum and gallery professionals and for those who are interested in working in this field.

Through engaging with a range of contributors and case studies, the event will provide a framework for the set-up and development of an Access programme focussed on creating events for people who are Deaf or Visually Impaired. The day will include presentations on °Õ²¹³Ù±ð’s award winning access programme, case studies of initiatives at Tate and other galleries, presentations on fundraising, marketing, audience development and working with artists, as well as a touch tour and visual description demonstration. The day will conclude with a BSL tour of the Kurt Schwitters exhibition.

Contributors are:

Marcus Dickey Horley: Curator of Access at Tate
Nora Razian: Curator of Adult Programmes at Tate
Aaron Williamson: Artist
Victoria Turball: Freelance Audio Describer
Sarah Asher: Public Sector Grants Manager at Tate
Edward Richards: Director of Cutting Edge Design and freelance gallery speaker

The programme is designed to enable you to:

  • Market events for specific access audiences
  • Fundraise for projects and programmes
  • Programme events for Deaf or Visually Impaired audiences
  • Have a better understanding of access programming in a gallery context
