Watch specially curated archival film footage inspired by the exhibition Haegue Yang: Strange Attractors
Tate St Ives have invited to find and curate film footage that reflects encounters with the exhibition’s themes and inspirations. Compass Presents have explored archive and immersed themselves in Yang’s works – from skeletal figures made of clothes airers draped with lightbulbs to wicker characters and planet-like orbs that dance when they spin.
Responding to Yang’s interest in dance, choreography and movement, and inspired by her sculptures, footage of North Cornwall’s Obby Oss festival will be spliced into a visual dance with light bulbs and people practising local traditions. Other sections of archival footage reflect Yang’s interest in St Senara’s church in Zennor, as well as the prevalence of the Cornish landscape and cosmological phenomena in her work. Equally, footage of the traditional crafts and wider heritage of the region mirrors Yang’s interest in local craftsmanship.
