Tate Britain is building relationships with the neighbouring community living and working in Westminster, Lambeth and Wandsworth. The aim is to involve local people, community groups and businesses in the Tate Britain Millbank Project through a range of creative projects and activities working with practising artists.

The local community meets the new Tate Britain
On the evening of Friday 29 November Tate Britain welcomed the local community to a private view of the new spaces and galleries after hours, which was attended by 580Â people.

We invited our neighbours to explore the new building via tours, talks, performance, an audio trail, and an artist-led workshop. Local residents showed their appreciation for the new building and for the special invitation to celebrate the completion of the Millbank project.
Stories Behind Tate Britain
Tate Britain, is neighbour to Millbank Estate, encompassing fifteen grade ll listed red brick blocks of flats, each named after iconic artists from °Õ²¹³Ù±ð’s collection.
In the run up to Tate Britain reopening and the new chronological re-hang, artist Yemisi Blake, together with residents of Millbank Estate, Tate staff and curators worked together to uncover connections between the artists who name the blocks, the history of the estate itself and the personal lives of its residents.
We produced an audio recording which was aired on local radio station and was available to listen to in the gallery for a limited time.
